Jenn is from Georgia but has called Utah home for many years. She has a Masters degree in Counseling from the University of Phoenix and is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Utah.
Jen has worked in several different therapeutic roles since 2000, all in nationally recognized residential treatment centers and therapeutic wilderness programs for adolescents. Recently, Jen worked for Second Nature 360 as a Transitional Specialist providing parent support for the last five years and currently provides clinical support to a small group of adolescents and their families at Gateway Academy, a residential treatment center in Salt Lake City.
My approach with parents starts from a place of deep empathy about how difficult this transition can be for parents and kids. From there, I am honest, direct, and directive with parents throughout the struggles that inevitably arise as a child transitions home or to a therapeutic placement.
About Solutions Parenting Support
Over the years, Hilary Moses, Jen Murphy and I gained much insight into how difficult it is for children and parents to sustain what they learned in treatment once they returned home.
The primary focus, through traditional treatment programs, was always primarily the child’s responsibility for continuing their growth in the home setting, but there was very little focus and resources dedicated to help the parents maintain, with confidence, their responsibility in this journey alongside their child.
We all felt called to find ways to better support parents and created Solutions Parenting Support to give parents the confidence and tools to navigate the tough terrain of raising struggling adolescents, teens and young adults.
We maintain humility and openness about our own learning processes. We are both teachers and learners with our eyes and hearts open to the idea that our clients are both our students and our teachers.
