Join us for an unforgettable 7-day family adventure in the amazing Boundary Waters Canoe Area. This trip blends outdoor exploration with meaningful family time, allowing you to unplug and reconnect with nature and each other.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a designated non-motorized pristine wilderness area in northern Minnesota bordering Canada. Thousands of lakes connected by portages make it an ideal wilderness canoe destination. The sky-blue waters offer picturesque lake front camp sites where the call of the loon take you back in time.

Families will be guided through scenic canoe country, land exploration and family coaching sessions, creating a unique opportunity for growth, relaxation, and connection.

Soltreks provides the following gear for wilderness lake canoeing: Canoes, paddles, life jackets, Duluth packs, tents, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and cooking/group gear. Meals are nutritious and plentiful.

DAILY STRUCTURE includes intention setting, meals, physical activity, journaling / self-reflection, creative arts and integration circles. Weather permitting: swimming, fishing, campfire and star gazing. Travel days include moving camp (canoeing and portaging). Play and fun are also on the schedule!

DAY ONE

Arrival / Orientation

Soltreks transport from Duluth airport (DLH) to Tofte, MN. Airport pickup is 12:00 PM Central Time. Upon hotel arrival, we will meet for orientation: Introductions, itinerary review, personal clothing and gear review, and Q and A. Dinner on your own.

DAY TWO

Training and shuttle to the BWCA. BIG DAY!

Early up to see the sun rise over Lake Superior. Today’s a big day! We meet in the morning at the Sawtooth Outfitters and transfer our personal gear into canoe packs, demonstrate canoe handling, packing & unloading a canoe and paddling techniques. Then transport to Kawishiwi Lake [approx. a 1-hour drive]. Upon arrival at Kawishiwi Lake put in, we launch our canoes and review paddle strokes and safety protocols. Following a shore lunch, we began our journey through a chain of lakes called “The Lady Chain” leaving civilization behind.

DAY THREE

Canoe to Phoebe Lake

Listen to the sound of the loons greeting a new day. After breakfast and a family check in circle, we'll break camp and canoe up the Phoebe River toward Hazel Lake. Even though we are headed upstream, there is little or no current to impede our progress. Phoebe is a classic wilderness lake with rolling hills covered with dense forest right up to the water's edge.

DAY FOUR

Canoe to Beth Lake

Listen to the sound of the loons greeting a new day. After breakfast and a family check in circle, we’ll break camp and canoe up the Phoebe River toward Hazel Lake. Even though we are headed upstream, there is little or no current to impede our progress. Phoebe is a classic wilderness lake with rolling hills covered with dense forest right up to the water’s edge.

DAY FIVE

Canoe to Alton Lake

We pack up and head for the 140-rod portage to Alton Lake. If the day is hot, Alton’s crystal clear, spring fed water offer two splendid sand beach campsites.

DAY SIX

Canoe to Sawbill Lake and canoe take-out

We canoe and portage the last 30-rods with our lighter weight food packs and canoe down the south end of the Sawbill Lake for take-out and clean up. The Sawbill outfitters general store offers shopping for souvenirs. Soltreks shuttle back to Tofte hotel! Early evening celebration! Dinner on your own.

DAY SEVEN

Transition / Departure

We meet at 8:00 AM for transport to Duluth. Recommend departure flights after 2:00PM central.
